Location

Gangseogu forms the west Busan with the boundary from the main branch of Nakdong river and its regional branch etc. The main gate of Busan, Gimhae international airport is located, and Namhae highway and Namhae local line highway connecting Gangseo with Gyeongnam province pass through Gangseo. To the east, we faces Bukgu, Sasanggu and Sahagu, to the west, we meet Gimhae city and Changwon city and to the south, the Namhae, the southern coastal line is unfolding. We are the optimal traffic center where 3rd urban rail and Busan and Gimhae light rail transit pass through Gangseo.

Size

The size of Gangseogu is 181.58㎢, so it accounts for 23.6% of the total area of Busan whose size is 769.58㎢. Therefore, it is the second biggest area following Gijanggun.

Climate

  • It is located in the southeastern tip of Korea, the temperature is high and we have relatively high precipitation. The yearly average temperature ranges between 14 - 15℃, the yearly average precipitation between 1,700 - 1,800㎜ and the yearly average wind speed between 4~5m/sec. When it comes to the direction of wind, we are affected by south-southwest wind in summer and northeast wind in winter.
  • The sea level tidal change is relatively small, so the average change is 1.4m, highest level is 2.80m and the lowest level is 0.85m, therefore, its tidal gap is about 2m. Accordingly, tidal energy and tidal amount created by the tide affect the shoal of the delta area, and it also affects the movement and sedimentation of materials carried through the river.
  • The temperature gap is not that big in Gangseogu, and we have enough rain, so, we have lower temperature than the others in summer due to the effect of sea wind and we have higher temperature in winter thanks to the effect of a sea and northern mountainous areas, therefore, we can say that Gangseo has relatively good climate condition. But, as wind is strong and dry in winter, it is often likely that wild fire takes place and it is not easy to do activities in the coastal line and at sea.
